The Textbook
The Problem with Traditional Textbooks β
Traditional English textbooks are great at teaching formal, academic English. But they don't teach you how British people actually speak.
You won't find expressions like "beat around the bush" or "cost an arm and a leg." You won't understand the cultural context behind everyday British behaviour β why people apologise when someone bumps into them, or what someone really means when they say "quite good." π¬π§
My experience:
As a language learner myself (I studied Mandarin in Taiwan for three years), I experienced the problem with traditional textbooks firsthand.
As an English teacher, I saw my students constantly face the same problem: they could pass exams, but they couldn't connect naturally with native speakers.
The Solution: A Textbook That Builds Colloquial English Skills and Cultural Knowledge π
When I searched for resources that taught real British English (the colloquial expressions, natural conversation patterns, cultural knowledge), I was surprised to find no comprehensive resource.
So I decided to write a textbook to fill this gap in the market.
π Upper-Intermediate to Advanced (B2+)
'My Cup of Tea English: Real British Language and Culture for B2+ Learners'
This is our signature textbook β the comprehensive resource that didn't exist until now.
What's inside:
- 12 chapters following Arsène's weekend in London
- Each chapter includes: dialogue, cultural footnotes, glossary, exercises, answer key, and culture page
- 30-40+ colloquial expressions per chapter
- Deep cultural insights into British behaviour and communication
Perfect for learners ready to master authentic British conversation, and begin achieving cultural integration.
π Intermediate to Upper-Intermediate (B1-B2)
Simplified version of the textbook
Uses the same story, characters, and structure as the B2+ textbook, but adapted for intermediate learners:
- Simplified vocabulary and grammar
- 20-25 colloquial expressions per chapter
- Bridge between functional English and sophisticated conversation
- Same cultural insights
π Elementary to Intermediate (A2-B1)
Foundation materials with the same characters
Learning materials designed for elementary learners, with the same characters from the textbook's story:
- Practical situations: cafΓ©s, shops, introductions, transport
- 10-15 high-frequency British expressions per lesson
- Build confidence using real colloquial English from day one
Having the same characters helps you progress naturally. When you move to higher levels, you'll already know them β so it feels like continuing a story with British friends rather than starting again.
Availability π
The B2+ textbook is currently being published and not yet available for purchase.
However: All students enrolled in our courses get full access to the appropriate materials for their level to use during and after lessons. β
